Efficient emission reduction through dynamic supply mode selection

Reducing the carbon footprint of global supply chains is a challenge for many companies. Governmental emission regulations are increasingly stringent, and consumers environmentally conscious. Companies should therefore integrate emissions in their chain decision making. In this paper, we study inbound mode inventory management making company that sells an assortment products. Stochastic demand each product arrives periodically unmet backlogged. Each has two distinct modes differ terms emissions, speed, costs. The needs to decide when ship how much using which such total holding, backlog, procurement costs minimized while associated with different across remains below target level. We assume shipment decisions governed by dual-index policy optimize parameters. formulate problem as mixed integer linear program solve through Dantzig–Wolfe decomposition. benchmark our model against state-of-the-art approaches large test-bed based on real-life data. Relative model, first lacks flexibility dynamically products second makes individually. Our computational experiment shows can outperform up 15 40 percent, respectively, moderate reduction targets.
